Lucid Liquid

Industrial, functional buildings are left to their own devices, developing an uncontrolled life of their own. Once efficient production processes begin to take on a life of their own—becoming aimless, purposeless, chaotic, and unpredictable. Human-made order, structure, and rhythm dissolve, melt away. Smoke, mist, fog, water, and other substances drift and seep through different spaces. The expansion of these liquid and vaporous states renders some rooms inaccessible—often only vaguely perceptible.

These spaces are simulacra of psychic realities, circling around anxieties of a repressed origin and the unspoken fears of our time.

About the sound design

The rooms of the video installation Lucid Liquid seem to be living pulsating organisms. They are simulacra of psychic reality full of ruinous beauty.

The aim of the acoustical setup and design was to to take up the concept of the installation and enhance the film towards a three-dimensional depth. The visitor should find him/herself in the middle, completely immersed by the situation. He or she should be able to loose him/hersef in the dystopian deserted organism of the room

Via an 8-channel surround system the physical impossibilities shown in the video are supplemented by acoustical equivalents in order to intensify the illusion and credibility of the shown word - to make them appear organic and natural.

In the interaction between the video projection, the interior design and the sound design a fascinating pull occurs into the dystopian, abandoned rooms, that seem to become subject itself.
