Bewegung! Frankfurt und die Mobilität

An interactive media guide through the exhibition

What does mobility truly entail? What values, ideas, needs, and above all, emotions are associated with it? The exhibition aims to explore the multifaceted nature of mobility through ten thematic stations. These invite visitors to connect individual experiences with societal and social aspects and to adopt different perspectives.

With the MediaGuide, you can experience the exhibition in a very special way. On foot, by bike, by public transport, by car or by plane through the exhibition. Five different forms of movement guide visitors through the exhibition and offer both strollers and jetsetters an immersive museum experience.

What I did:

  • Collaborating on the concept of the guide

  • Designing the nonlinear storyline together with Lenja Busch

  • Directing, recoding and editing the narration voice

  • Designing soundscapes, sound effects, and music in binaural 3D for the guide

  • Implementing all files in the CMS, offered by the Museum

  • Opening: 20.11.24

On display from 21. November 2024 bis 14. September 2025

About the sound design

The exciting challenge of this project was to design an interactive media guide with a nonlinear narrative structure. The goal was not only to convey information but also to reflect the core theme of the exhibition—movement and mobility—within the very concept itself.

Visitors navigate the exhibition through five distinct routes, each tied to a different mode of transportation. Those exploring on foot take a detailed, hour-long journey, while those "flying" stop at just a few selected stations and complete the tour in only 20 minutes. Depending on the chosen mode of transport (walking, cycling, public transit, driving, or flying), the audio tracks shift in both content and reflective focus, creating a unique and personalized experience.

Guiding visitors is a relatable, empathetic narrator—a strong, character-driven voice that resonates with both Gen Z and audiences in their 50s, bridging generational perspectives.

The sound design brings the everyday sounds of Frankfurt’s streetscape into the museum in immersive binaural 3D audio, creating a vivid, lifelike experience that enhances the museum journey.

The musical composition is cohesive, built around a custom theme that adapts to evoke a range of moods and energies for each exhibition section. This approach provides structure, variety, and emotional depth, enriching the storytelling and engaging the audience on multiple levels.
